Being a member of Whakatū Rotary will see you working alongside other enthusiastic volunteers on projects and events of high impact and with measurable benefits for the community.
We offer leadership training and personal development. Our members have a wide range of professional and acquired skills, including project planning and management, IT knowledge, financial expertise, media experience and others to plan, develop and run successful community projects and events. You are also encouraged to suggest and lead projects that interest you in areas of importance and high impact in the community.

Belonging to Whakatū Rotary is also a great way to meet new people. We’re all friends and enjoy hanging out together socially. We have a calendar of social events, that include dinners, drinks, walks, bike rides and other events. We have a number of members who joined us after moving to Nelson from out of the region and who saw their club membership as a valuable way to integrate into their new community and make new friends.
How do I join?
We welcome new members and encourage those interested to contact us and visit us at one of our club events and weekly get-togethers to learn more about us and about Rotary. You can email us at secretary@rotarywhakatu.club or complete your details in the on-line form (below).
If you decide you would like to join, we’ll take you through the ropes. Once your application is accepted by the club, you’ll be inducted, given a club mentor, and get a club shirt to wear to events and projects.
Membership options
We have a range of options for those looking to join Whakatū Rotary. There are regular, corporate and sponsored memberships, one that suits those who may not be able to attend quite so regularly, and a subsidised option for those aged under 35.
Some options include pre-paid meals, others are pay as you go. All memberships include fixed Rotary International and Rotary District fees.
We’re always reviewing our membership options as we want to encourage as many people as interested to be part of the club. Check with us to find out ways you can become a member.
Volunteer – Become a Friend of Whakatū Rotary
For those who simply cannot join for whatever reason but would like to be involved, there is the opportunity to become a Friend of Whakatū Rotary. You will be invited to help where we need large numbers of volunteers for an event or project, or to join us for a project you are particularly interested in. As examples, Friends of Whakatū Rotary can be found at our casinos as croupiers and helpers, getting their hands dirty at our gardening working bees, helping and participating in the annual Santa Parade, and working with our security team at the Founders Book Fair.
